What is lean?

At CLEAR, we have implemented a working definition of lean to aid us in ensuring that we are able to accurately identify and critically evaluate Lean process improvement initiatives. We define lean as:

An overall operating and management system that creates value by eliminating waste and solving problems through daily application of the scientific method. The end result is improved quality and lower cost for the patient (increased value).

Our Vision

The vision of CLEAR is to transform healthcare delivery by providing knowledge to help organizations eliminate waste and create greater value, resulting in the continuous improvement of patient outcomes and experience of care, population health, provider well-being, and reduced growth in the cost of care.

Our Mission

CLEAR’s mission is to conduct timely, relevant, and actionable research on lean whole system transformation initiatives in healthcare.
